Auger Wins Safety Award
Auger Services earned ADSC’s Division 1 Award for the 2012 Outstanding Safety Program. Auger Services competed against other large drilling companies with jobs worth more than 2 million dollars. The award was presented to Auger Services at ADSC’s 2012 Safety Awards ceremony Safety Awards Presentation Ceremony at ADSC Summer Meeting in San Francisco CA.
ADSC’s mission is to identify hazards in the anchored earth retention, drilled shaft, and micropile workplace before accidents occur, and then minimize the association member’s risk by changing exposure to the hazards by educating (increasing awareness), administering (creating rules), or by engineering (re-configuring) the hazards out of the workplace.
“We are fully committed to a culture of safety,” said President and CEO Michael Cutrone. “The skill and dedication of our field operators is the cornerstone of our strong safety record, but this award also recognizes the ongoing efforts of our entire staff, including operations, maintenance, training and safety management.”
Auger Services is a business unit of PLH Group headquartered in Dallas TX where “safety is more than a priority, it is an ethic and a value that is ingrained in the way we conduct our business and live our lives.”
Beginning in 2010, all departmental teams at Power Line Services, Auger Services and Air2 focused on specific training for specific safety behaviors. All PLH Group business unit employees attend an industry leading 3 day orientation to cover expectations relevant to Auger Services tasks.
All Auger Services supervisory employees will have completed, at minimum:
- New‐Employee Orientation; and
- OSHA 30‐hour and/or a combination of OSHA 10‐hour training and Auger Services Foreman’s Academy or OSHA 20‐hour
All field employees will have completed, at minimum;

These efforts made an impact on the safety of the Auger employees and the Division 1 ADSA Award recognized these efforts. In addition, the centerpiece of the PLH Group safety program is the PREVENT System – a collection of tools designed to integrate safe work practices into every step of the task. This proprietary program puts visual and practical teaching tools into the hands of every employee companywide using the latest technology – a QR Code linked to a short video that can be viewed by personnel anywhere, at any time.
Each year, ADSC’s Safety Committee appoints an independent awards subcommittee to choose the top driller for implementing programs or projects that achieve documented success in addressing specific safety areas. Auger Services was pleased to be the 2012 Division 1 recipient.
